Lauren Greenfield

Lauren is an Emmy Award–winning documentary filmmaker and photographer, considered a preeminent chronicler of youth culture and gender identity.  Growing up in Venice, California and later attending Harvard, she landed a coveted post graduate internship at National Geographic where she turned her focus back toward Los Angeles, resulting her in first monograph Fast Forward. Lauren’s photographs have been widely exhibited and collected by museums; in addition, she has published four monographs (Fast Forward, Girl Culture, Thin and Generation Wealth). A 25-year retrospective of Lauren’s work, Generation Wealth, opened in Los Angeles at the Annenberg Space for Photography in April 2017, and later at the International Center of Photography in New York. Generation Wealth, the feature length documentary, premiered on opening night at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival.

As a film director, Lauren’s The Queen of Versailles won the Best Director Award at Sundance in 2012, and garnered a DGA nomination for Best Director. Generation Wealth was released theatrically in Summer 2018 by Amazon.  Her paradigm-shifting viral campaign #LikeAGirl was seen by 214 million global viewers and garnered more than 100 awards, including the Emmy for Best Television Commercial as well as 14 Cannes Lions. #LikeAGirl was named 3rd Best Ad of the Decade, and earned Lauren the #1 Director/Most Awarded by AdAge.

Lauren likes using laughter as a way to get into the storytelling and loves the unexpected journey of thinking you’re headed for one place but end up in another. When she’s with her subjects she focuses on what makes them tick. She’s interested in finding the common ground and how we’re all complicit in a story.
